Windows 2000 Recovery

If you find that your Windows 2000 Operating System is failing to load, or failing to load properly, the recovery console can assist you to restore the systems default settings and correct the malfunction. One of the major benefits of the Windows recovery console is that it allows you access to the NTFS, FAT & FAT32 volumes without loading the operating system itself. You simply start your computer with the Windows CD Rom in the disk drive, and when the appropriate menu opens, select the option that corresponds to the launching of the Windows recovery console. (This generally consists of hitting F10, R and then C for Windows 2000 OS)

Through the Windows recovery console, users are able to:

  • Create drive partitions and format them.
  • Access operating system files for the purpose of renaming, using, copying or replacing.
  • Choose programs / devices / applications / services to either be enabled or disabled upon operating system start up.
  • Make repairs to the Master Boot Record.
On the flip side, it is important to note that there are restrictions / limitations to what the Windows recovery console can be used to access. These restrictions include the following folders:
  • Cmdfcons folder
  • Root folder
  • System Root folder
  • Subfolders of Windows installation you are logged onto
  • Removable Media drives such as CD Rom or DVD
