lost data

As a society, we have become immersed in the technological age, making personal computers, cell phones and PDA's about as commonplace as a piece of paper and a pen. As a result of this increased reliance on technology to safeguard/store a vast array of data ranging from phone numbers and addresses to credit card information and bank account descriptions, people are continuously finding themselves susceptible to a degree of error (human & technological) through which their data may be leaked or lost. In the case of lost data, it is recommended that prudent users continuously create backup copies of any/all important data that is entrusted to some technological platform. Accidents happen, and unfortunately, even when people do make copies, they rarely account for up-to-the-second data backups.

So your data is lost, what do you do? The first and most important thing to do after having had lost valuable data is to stop working. Any additional actions taken by the user will make it that much more difficult to recover lost data. Dependent on the severity of the problem, you can choose to attempt to recover the lost data yourself, or you can hire a professional to do it for you within the controlled environment of a 'clean room,' where your system will be free from various forms of contamination. (A contaminated system may become physically damaged past the point of repair)
